National Methamphetamine Awareness Day, November
30
Today, November 30, 2006 is National Methamphetamine Awareness
Day by decree of the President of the United States, George W. Bush.
National Methamphetamine Awareness Day has been declare in order
underscore and proclaim the dangers of using the illicit drug.
| Methamphetamine use
has grown drastically within the last five years in many states
such as California where it has overtaken heroin in illicit
drugs of choice numbers. Chronic use of methamphetamines can
lead to paranoia, violent behavior and deeply neglectful behavior.
Use of methamphetamines
on the East Coast is also on the rise according to a new study.
After an explosion of methamphetamine use on the West Coast
and in rural areas, states such as Connecticut, Maine and
the District of Columbia have seen an increase of up to 115-percent
within the last year.

|
Much of the rise of meth use can be attributed to the fact that
pharmacies on the East Coast, so far, have not be required to keep
cold medicines containing pseudoephedrine behind the pharmacy counter
as is required on the West Coast and in many Midwestern states.
Pseudoephedrine is one of the key ingredients used in meth labs
to create methamphetamines.
